time1Banda Aceh, 25 October 2014. The 20th Indonesian annual travel mart, Tourism Indonesia Mart & Expo (TIME) or ‘Pasar Wisata Indonesia’ 2014 is concluded today with total attendants of 60 Buyers from 18 countries, dominated by  Malaysia, Singapore, The Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.

TIME 2014 has also attracted a total of 60 Sellers from various provinces of Indonesia, dominated by Aceh, Riau islands, North Sumatra, East Java, and Bangka Belitung,  occupying 36 Booths at the Mart. The percentage of Sellers based on industry is Hotel, Resort & Spa (75%), NTO (10%), Tour Operator/Travel Agent (7%), Adventure/Activity Holiday (3%), Airline (1.5%), and Others (Hotel Management, Tourism Board, Tourism Organization (8.5%).

This year’s TIME is held in Hermes Palace Hotel Banda Aceh from 23rd to 26th October.  The Official Opening of TIME 2014 was attended by the Governor of Aceh, Haji Zaini Abdullah,  together with the Director General of Tourism Marketing  the  Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Esthy Reko Astuti, in Governor’s Official Residence, Banda Aceh.

Some constructive notes have been expressed by delegates of TIME 2014 that Aceh has the potential of a global destination particularly for special interest, if supported with promotions as well sound infrastructure including transportation and accommodation, including accessibility as this will lure international travellers to come to Aceh.

Buyers and international travel writers are given the opportunity to take part in a one-day post tour to Sabang.

At press time with Aceh Culture and Tourism Office yesterday it was mentioned that the hosting of TIME in Banda Aceh has been an effective medium to promote and sell Aceh to the international market, and at the same time it could speed up the development and improvement of infrastructure, tourism facilities and attractions in the region, so that at the end the destination could establish itself as a travel destination.

Banda Aceh is located at the western tip of Indonesia; it is only 45 minutes by flight from Medan, the capital city of North Sumatra, and one-hour by flight from Kuala Lumpur, the nearest international connection to Banda Aceh. The island possesses various tourism potentials which could attract international tourists, mostly nature, culture and adventure.

Banda Aceh is flown frequently from Jakarta and Medan by Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, and Air Asia.  As for international connection, it is served from Kuala Lumpur and Penang.  At the press time with Garuda Indonesia yesterday, it was mentioned that Garuda Indonesia has a future plan of flying from Medan to Sabang, since Sabang is the most visited destination by international travelers to Aceh.

TIME is organized by the Indonesian Tourism Council (MPI) and supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Provincial Government of Aceh and the entire component of Indonesian tourism.  TIME 2014 is also supported by Garuda Indonesia as Official Airlines, Association of the Indonesian Tours & Travel Agencies (ASITA) Aceh, Indonesia Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Aceh, Indonesian Conference and Convention Association (INCCA), and Pacto Convex as the event organizer.
